Road cycling: 25 routes in Upper Austria

Are you planning your next road cycling trip and you are not sure where you want to travel to? Did you think about the province Upper Austria? I checked out: road cycling: 25 routes in Upper Austria. Its right in the middle of Austria and there are view secret spots for road cyclists.

Secret Spot Wels

One of the hotspot of this summer road cycling trips is Wels. Wels is located in the heart of Upper Austria and is a great city to start daily road cycling trips.

Why road cycling in Wels?

Wels is a city with a lovely Old Town, great restaurants, and fantastic routes towards the countryside. The essential tip on why to cycle from Wels is the chance to cycle in between a picturesque, hilly landscape with almost no traffic. Cycling on roads without that much traffic is very rare nowadays, and that’s why I find it relevant to know.

Wels is a great starting point for cyclists who are a beginner but also for advanced ones seeking long-distance routes.

The best hotel for cyclists

As cyclists, it can be quite tough to find great places to stay. The last time I traveled to Wels to cycle towards the Salzkammergut I stayed in the Boutique Hotel Hauser right in the center of Wels. The family who runs the hotel is lovely and they showed us routes to secret places which I really liked a lot.

I loved the rooftop pool; it’s rare in Austria to get that in a hotel. After a long ride, it just felt awesome to jump into the pool and relax on the rooftop.

The best coffee for cyclists

I know coffee is relevant for most cyclists. During my stay, I tested quite a view of different coffee places, and I highly recommend the following location. The restaurant is called “Café da Mika” only 200 m away from the Boutique Hotel Hauser. Some Italians own the coffee shop, and that’s why I love the coffee and croissant there. During a warm and sunny day, it’s great to sit outside and enjoy a deliciously made cappuccino before starting the day on the road.

Ice cream lover

I am an ice cream lover, and I like to have ice cream right after an excellent cycling tour. How about you? I suggest the place called “Coccinella Eis” on the main street in the old town of Wels. It is a MUST place.

Additional reasons for why to start your cycling trip from Wels

Wels provides an excellent offer of restaurants, such as the place called Olivi. The lady who runs the restaurant is a fanatic road cyclist and tasty. We had dinner one night at Olivi. They offer a great variety of wine and Italian food. Love it.

The place is a great city to go shopping as lots of local and small companies sell their amazing work. Its a very creative and cultural city with lots of enthusiasm and passion I could feel while walking through the streets.
